ZebraFish


Task description: We were working on zebra fish about some information we
were writing about what we understand about the topic we were give to.

  1. Hi Thet Htar, I know it does sound strange to say that zebrafish are 70% related to humans when we look so different. When scientists say that sort of thing, they are talking about how similar our DNA sequence is to the zebrafish. The fish has many of the same types of cells that we do (such as blood cells) and these cells need the same sorts of proteins to do their job. If we compared the DNA of the gene that makes haemoglobin (the protein in fish and human blood cells that carries oxygen around our body), we would see that the fish gene for haemoglobin is almost the same as the human haemoglobin gene. This may not make so much sense right now, but you will be learning more about this in the next few weeks.
